Idaho murders: JonBenet’s half-brother gives ‘huge credit’ to Moscow police for help

FIRST ON FOX: The half-brother of John Bennett Ramsey, the 6-year-old pageant who was killed Wednesday, spoke about the Moscow Police Department’s response to the Nov. 13 unsolved murders of four University of Idaho college students.

“The Moscow police are in an almost impossible position,” said Andrew Ramsey. “They simply don’t have the experience to conduct a complex homicide investigation.”

He added that most local agencies can deal with a routine homicide if the motive for the killing is clear, but if they’re dealing with a “violent psychopath who has no connection to the victim, it’s a ‘whole different game.’

“I give Moscow PD a lot of credit for reaching out to outside agencies for help,” he added.

JonBenét’s mother reported him missing on December 26, 1996, when she found a bond demanding $118,000 from the family’s home in Boulder, Colorado.

Police suspected the girl’s parents, John Ramsey and Patsy Ramsey, may have been involved before the case went cold after a series of apparent missteps by the Boulder Police Department. The family has repeatedly denied involvement in the crime and is still searching for answers almost 26 years later.

BPD recently said it will consult with the Colorado Cold Case Review Team in 2023.

“In our case, the Boulder police almost immediately told the more experienced Denver police and the FBI, ‘No thanks, we got it.’ Big mistake and for good reason, we’re still here 26 years later with no arrests. I pray for the families in Moscow that they do not end up in the same situation,” he said.

After Kyle Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Hana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were stabbed to death as they slept in a rental home near the University of Idaho campus, the Moscow Police Department almost immediately called in the help of the Idaho State Police and the FBI.
