The International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and Women in Animation (WIA) have partnered to create the Stories x Women program. The program, which was announced on May 17th, 2023, aims to bring more women’s stories to the forefront of the film industry.
The program is designed to support women storytellers and empower them to create and produce content that reflects their unique perspectives. Through the program, FIAPF and WIA will identify and select a group of female delegates from various countries around the world. These delegates will be given the opportunity to attend film festivals, networking events, and educational programs to help them develop their storytelling skills.
The Stories x Women program is an extension of the FIAPF/WIA International Women in Film Festival Network (IWFFN). The IWFFN was launched in 2019 and has since connected more than 100 women’s film festivals around the world.
The partnership between FIAPF and WIA comes at a time when the film industry is facing increased scrutiny for its lack of diversity and inclusion. Women, people of color, and other underrepresented groups have historically been excluded from the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera. The Stories x Women program is one step toward changing that narrative and giving women a voice in the industry.
In a joint statement, FIAPF President Luis Alberto Scalella and WIA President Marge Dean said, “We believe that stories have the power to change the world. The Stories x Women program is designed to amplify the voices of women storytellers and support their work to bring more diversity and inclusivity to the film industry.”
The program has already received support from various film festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, which will provide delegates with access to its networking events and educational programs. Other festivals that have pledged support for the program include the Toronto International Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival.
The Stories x Women program is an important step toward creating a more inclusive and diverse film industry. By providing women with the tools and resources they need to tell their stories, the program is helping to break down the barriers that have historically prevented women from succeeding in the film industry.
