Jennifer Lawrence comments on female-led action film after roast: ‘It went wrong’

After a firestorm of criticism, actress Jennifer Lawrence is clarifying her earlier lies about female-led action films. The Oscar-winning actress announced the alleged correction during an interview on Thursday The Hollywood Reporter.

“It was a blunder on my part and it went wrong,” Lawrence, 32, admitted in an interview about her alleged slip of the tongue.

The controversy erupted a day earlier after “American Hustle” star Viola Davis declared herself the first ever female lead in an interview for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series.

I remember when I was doing The Hunger Games, nobody would ever cast a woman in the lead role in an action movie because it wouldn’t work – because we were told that both girls and boys would identify with a male lead. they said they could, but boys couldn’t. Lawrence portrayed the role of Katniss Everdeen in the 2012 film adaptation of the popular book series.

His comments caused a tsunami from movie buffs, noting that he had a number of acting stars long before his 2012 film.

They listed examples ranging from Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley in 1979’s Alien to Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003’s Tomb Raider.

Needless to say, the Kentucky native quickly took back his words. “That wasn’t what I was trying to say at all,” Lawrence clarified to THR. “I know I’m not the only woman to direct an action film.”

She explained that she wanted to “point out how good it is to push past the old myths” about gender bias in Hollywood.

In the end, Lawrence said he made a mistake because he was nervous talking to a “living legend” in Davis.
