Country music singer Jimmie Allen and his wife, Alexis, are opening up about their 1-year-old son’s health struggles.
According to People magazine, the couple’s daughter, Zara James, was diagnosed with RSV, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, just weeks after her birth in October 2021.
Alexis said she discovered that her baby girl “looked and felt different” and that everything “didn’t seem right,” she told the media.

After alerting her husband, they decided to take Zara to the hospital for a medical examination.

“When we got to the hospital, they told us it was just a cold and to go home, take care at home and hold the baby and everything would be fine,” Alexis said.
The country star’s wife added that she noticed their daughter wasn’t getting better and called 911 the next night.

“They turned away from me and said he looks fine and it’s just a cold,” Alexis said.

She continued to speak openly about her daughter’s health issues and revealed that she had consulted a pediatrician to treat the newborn. The doctor then diagnosed Zara with RSV.
“They basically described to us that with RSV, it gets worse before it gets better. So we were on day five, and it’s usually day seven or eight that they seem to turn the corner and get a little bit better,” Alexis said. noted.
According to the CDC, RSV is “a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms” and “can be especially serious in infants and adults.”
The couple recalled another scary incident involving their baby girl at the 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
On the tour bus, Alexis described her daughter as “completely bruised and completely out of it.”
“I don’t want to say he passed out, but he wasn’t there. His body just came out and we had to wait for the ambulance to take us to the hospital.”

More than a year later, Jimmy confirmed Zara’s health is “good now” and that she had a serious illness “you wouldn’t even know”.
Jimmie and Alexis are telling their stories as part of their involvement with Knowing RSV, an organization whose mission is to inform and educate parents about health conditions.
The 37-year-old country singer posted a video on Instagram explaining her daughter’s health struggles.
“I didn’t know anything about RSV. Now I know to look for the signs,” Jimmy said, holding his baby girl.

“I can tell you it’s scary, especially about babies.”
She continued to share her parenting experience on the social media platform.
“When Lexi called me last year and told me Zara had been hospitalized with severe respiratory syncytial virus (#RSV) – I felt helpless. I had never heard of RSV. All I knew as a parent was , it’s my worst nightmare.”
Jimmy went on to say that RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization for infants under 1 year of age.
He added that he and his wife have joined forces with Sanofi to “help empower and educate other parents about this highly contagious virus.”
