John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s 2-week-old daughter Estee’s name honors several family members.
The EGOT winner entered the E! News Wednesday that the homage was not “intentional.”
“Once Chrissy pitched the idea to me, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother was named Esther,'” Legend explained.
“We already wanted to name her middle name Maxine after my grandmother, whose middle name was Maxine,” he continued.
“So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”
The “All of Me” singer, 44, and Teigen, 37, revealed their baby girl’s name earlier this month, about a week after the model gave birth.
“We welcomed Estee Maxine Stephens into our family, and our home is filled with love and happiness,” Legend captioned a Jan. 19 Instagram of daughter Luna, 6, and son Miles, 4, holding the infant. Written in the caption of the photo.
He thanked his wife for her “strength and resilience.”
The “Voice” coach concluded, “I’m so excited to see how Luna and Miles embrace their sister. I’m so grateful, but it doesn’t seem like a big enough word.”
Teigen shared the same sweet photo on her account.
He wrote that the house is in turmoil and our family could not be happier. “We are delighted.”
The couple, who married in 2013, conceived Esti via in vitro fertilization in 2020, nearly two years after Tegan lost son Jake at 20 weeks pregnant.
The author of the book “Cravings” clarified in September 2022 that her pregnancy loss was actually a “life-saving abortion”.
Teigen told E! News in 2017 that she always wanted “the biggest family ever,” which Legend echoed five years later on “Entertainment Tonight.”
“The chair … wants more,” he said in September 2022. “I’m one of four, so I’m good with it.”
