Klobuchar, D-Min., recently introduced legislation that would aim to limit Section 230, the liability shield for social media platforms, as debate grows around misinformation for both elections and health issues.
“Senators Warner and Hirono and I have already introduced a bill that will focus on discriminatory content and things like that when we have a public health crisis and people are dying every day,” Klobuchar told LOVEBYLIFE’s “State of the Union” said.

“These are the richest companies in the world,” she continued. “There’s absolutely no reason they shouldn’t be able to monitor this better and take this crap off their platforms that’s basically telling people, ‘Oh, hey, there are problems,’ when we know That science proves it isn’t.”
Klobuchar’s Safe Techniques Act, Introduced in February, which aims to hold companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook accountable for harassment-related content, but Klobuchar wants to see legislation specifically designed to tackle misinformation about vaccinations.

His remarks strengthen stance among Democrats President Biden said Facebook was “killing people” by not monitoring “Covid misinformation” more strictly.
“They’re killing people,” Biden replied. “The only epidemic we have is without vaccination, and they are killing people.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the administration was communicating with Facebook to work on limiting “misinformation” on the platform.
Klobuchar said social media contributed “a lot” to “misinformation”, citing numbers that “two-thirds of people who haven’t vaccinated say … they got something from social media.”
His solution: break up companies to reduce their reach and influence.
“Part of it is that they’ve caught so many companies that you don’t even have the chance that other media platforms can do this on social media,” Klobuchar said. “That’s why I’m a fan of using antitrust to look back and see if they should divest assets so that we can have true competition again.”
