Latter-day Saint Shrines: What does the Smithfield Utah Temple look like?

Smithfield released the Utah Temple External Rendering The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Wednesday.

Smithfield Temple, the second in the Cache Valley, is the home of President Russell M. Schneider at the end of the October General Conference. It is one of 20 temples Nelson declared.

The site and construction plans for the Smithfield Temple were released on June 10.

The Smithfield Temple will be built on 13.3 acres at the intersection of 800 West and 100 North. It is estimated to be 81,000 square feet and three storeys high.

The Smithfield Temple is the most recent of Beehive State’s 28 shrines, either under construction, under renovation or under construction. The church has 17 operating temples in the state, although several are under renovation.

Other temples announced or under construction are in Ephraim, Heber Valley, Layton, Lyndon, Orem, St. George (Red Cliffs), Saratoga Springs, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Tooley (Deseret Peak).

The 2019 US Census Bureau estimates that Smithfield’s population is 12,025 people. It is the second largest city in Cash County.

Logan Utah Temple, the first of the Cash Valley, is a pioneer-era temple. President Nelson announced in April 2019 that the church would renovate all its pioneer-era temples. The church is already renovating such pioneer-era temples in Salt Lake, St. George and Manti.

According to the church, 2.1 million members attend 5,200 meetings in Utah Newsletter.
