Lionel Messi was finally able to open his Ligue 1 account this afternoon, after Argentina earned the type of goal that has become synonymous with it over the years.
When Nantes was taken at the Parc des Princes, he knew that the Paris Saint-Germain victory would take him back to the top of Ligue 1.
Amazingly, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have managed to win 12 of their 14 league matches without Messi scoring or helping them once.
With just three minutes to play this evening, his Baron spell is finally over – and in some fashion too.
Messi completed the hosts’ win, adding a third of PSG’s three goals.
Watch the fateful strike below for yourself.
The goal was greeted by plenty of fans on social media, with foggy conditions partially obscuring the goal’s camera’s appearance.
As one user has suggested, Messi’s first goal in the Champions League will never be tapped into his first goal in League 1.
Out of the box: sob :: sob :: sob: Man doesn’t want his first league goal to be a tap in or a keeper’s mistake: skull :: skull:

And for some, this goal is a timely reminder of where Messi performs best on the pitch. So far, Pochettino has chosen the 34-year-old to play on the wing instead of in the front third.
Pochettino should note that the more Messi moves to the center of the field, the more likely PSG to score.
