Lionel Messi will not return to Barcelona training for now – Reports

Lionel messi won’t be returning to Barcelona’s pre-season training sessions just yet as he has yet to put the pen on his new Blaugrana contract, according to a report Forbes.

Barcelona have made a great start to the pre-season, winning three games so far. Newcomer Memphis Depay has gelled well alongside Antoine Griezmann as manager Ronald Koeman looks to add another spark to Barcelona’s forward line.

However, the Catalan giants will have to do without their captain Messi for the time being. The six-time Ballon d’Or has been a free agent for almost a month now. Despite the delay in the proceedings, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is still confident that Messi will sign a new deal soon.

Laporta allayed the concerns of Barcelona fans by saying:

“Everything is going well as planned. Everything is going well, everything is fine.

Lionel Messi is currently on vacation in Ibiza, Spain, with his friend and former Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez.

Lionel Messi to miss reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo when Barcelona face Juventus

Barcelona are set to face Serie A Juventus in the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy. The pre-season trophy is an annual competition hosted by Barcelona ahead of their La Liga campaign.

Due to a deadlock in contract talks, Lionel Messi is not expected to take part in the ritual tournament. This means he will miss the opportunity to play against his all-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo. Juventus expect the return of Ronaldo and Messi’s Argentinian teammate Paulo Dybala.

Barcelona, on the other hand, will welcome the arrival of new signing Sergio Agüero and Emerson Royal to their pre-season training on Monday August 2.

The Joan Gamper Trophy also has a tradition where the Barcelona captain addresses the crowd to share the club’s future ambitions. This is something Lionel Messi has done before.

The annual preseason competition will take place on August 8. This effectively only gives Barcelona six days for Messi to sign a new deal, which is very optimistic. The Catalan giants play their first La Liga game against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on August 15, 2021.
