Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is on his way to his Octagon return after a two-year hiatus. The 36-year-old will face Sean Strickland at UFC 268 this November.
But as Rockhold himself declared in a recent Instagram story, the fight is no longer happening.
There is no easy way to say it actually, but the fight is in New York. I ended up hernifying the disc on my back. L4, L5, and Docs say it is nothing I play. I need to do some healing and a little recovery time.
Some things are not meant to be in New York. Motherf -NG New York. Sorry to friends and family and peeps and all the people. We’ll be back. ‘Until next time.
It is unclear whether or not UFC will find a replacement opponent for Strickland.
Rockhold’s last octagon occurred in 2019 at UFC 239, where he debuted as a light heavyweight against current champion John Blacovich. He was knocked out in the second round to follow the previous KO loss at the hands of Joel Romero.
UFC 268 takes place on November 6 at Madison Square Garden. It is co-headlined by two title replays: Strawweight’s Rose Namajunas and Wheelie Zhang at the co-main event, followed by Welterweight’s Usuman Usman and Colby Covington at the top of the bill.
