Madonna took to social media on Tuesday to condemn the internet’s backlash to her “unrecognizable” appearance at the 2023 Grammys.
The 64-year-old singer explained that she was excited to feature Sam Smith and Kim Petras (who became the first trans woman to perform at the awards ceremony and win a Grammy) ahead of her “historic performance” for “Unclean,” but Instead, people chose to focus on her looks.
The Material Girl explained, “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech—which was about thanking artists like Sam and Kim for their fearlessness—a lot of people just used long-lens cameras. Chose to talk about my close-up photos taken by a press photographer that would make anyone’s face go haywire!!
“I am once again caught in the glare of the ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women. [sic] 45 years old and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working and brave.
Madonna added that she has “never apologized for any of the creative choices” she made or the way she looks or dresses – and she won’t start now.
“I’ve been humiliated by the media since the beginning of my career but I think it’s all a test and I’m happy to be blazing a trail so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.” He continued before quoting Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul.”
The controversial singer told her fans that she is looking forward to “many more years of subversive behavior – pushing boundaries – standing up to the patriarchy – and most of all enjoying my life”.
In keeping with her unapologetic style, Madonna shared a behind-the-scenes look at her shenanigans at the Grammys, including making lewd gestures with Sam Smith, posing with Cardi B and showing off her lacy bra. He even tongue-kissed songwriter Jozi.
Her post came after fans expressed their concern about the singer when they barely recognized her at the Grammys.

However, a source told The Post that Madonna’s shocking look comes from the singer’s desire to resemble her 2000s self — but in an effort to stave off aging, she’s making herself almost unrecognizable.
Plastic surgeons previously told Page Six that they believe she’s had a face job, a nose job and had her skin “pulled back,” among other things.
Although the musical legend has never publicly addressed the plastic surgery rumors, the actor said in 2012, “I’m definitely not against plastic surgery. However, I’m definitely against discussing it.”
