a New York A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to snatch a five-year-old child from a city street.
James McGonagall, 24, a Queens resident, has been arrested on charges of attempted kidnapping, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Dolores Diaz Lopez said she was taking her kids to see her husband at work when the man, who is a complete stranger, grabbed her little boy.
“I said ‘oh my god my kids, oh my god my boy,'” she told ABC 7. “I don’t know why it happened. I’ve never seen those guys.
“You have to do what is necessary, no matter what. The car was parked there. I would never have thought that a man would get out of the car and grab my son. You always have to be aware of your surroundings and use your phone But won’t stay.”
When several passersby approached the car, another suspect in the car fled the spot. No one was injured in the incident.
The suspect was later arrested at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn after officers attending an unrelated case identified him from video of the incident. The accused was in the hospital in search of treatment. Police say the suspect was tested at a hospital.
The second accused in the car has not been arrested yet. Officers described him as a light-skinned man of about 50 to 60 years of age and wearing glasses, an orange shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
