Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso is responsible for scoring one of the greatest penalties of all time while on international duty.
It may have been a few years since he retired but we still haven’t reconciled with what Alonso calls his illustrious career time – so we occasionally remember his playing days.
And while looking through his impressive career, we stumbled on a penalty. No, Liverpool fans, not that penalty in Istanbul.
Case in point; His attempt for Spain against Argentina. It might just be international friendly but Alonso gave a masterclass on how to put on a spot-kick.
After getting the pen in the game’s dying stages, Alonso stepped up to execute perfectly.
Now that’s how you take the wand.
The midfield maestro enjoyed great success on the international stage, winning two European Championships and the coveted World Cup in 2010.
He enjoyed spells at Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, winning everything he could win in a trophy-laden career – topping the Champions League in both Liverpool and Los Blancos.
Not to mention La Liga, the Bundesliga and the other major silverware of the FA Cup.
In 2017, she posted a picture of saying goodbye with words; “Live. Love. Farewell. Beautiful game,” he declared.
