Matt Brown with Brian Barbarena out of UFC Vegas 44 bout tested positive for COVID

If you’re looking forward to Matt Brown’s Octagon return at UFC Vegas 44 next weekend, this news may disappoint you. On Tuesday, “The Immortal” revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19, which subsequently removed him from his stint against Brian Barberena.

“I tested positive for Kovid today so my fight is off next weekend,” Brown wrote on Twitter.

It was Brown’s 28th fight at the UFC. He was looking to start the series after his second round KO win against Dhigo Lima in June, which raised $ 50K for the night show.

Barberena, on the other hand, is coming off a majority decision loss to Jason Witt in July, which earned him a Fight of the Night bonus for both men.

The UFC has yet to announce whether or not this match will be rescheduled.

UFC Vegas 44 will headline a bantamweight encounter between Rob Font and former longtime featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
