Matt Hardy is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, having worked in various promotions throughout his career. He is currently under his Big Money Matt personality at AEW and remains a major. It seems that he once had a pitch for a big feud in WWE as well.
Fans are familiar with The Hardy Boyz’s traditional feud with Edge and Christian in WWE, as the two teams have redefined the tag team’s meaning by always putting their body in line during several TLC matches.
While speaking Matt Hardy’s Extreme Life The podcast, Matt Hardy revealed that he once pitched The Hardy Boyz for a feud with Edge and Christian and De-Generation X after their iconic ladder match from 1999’s No Mercy Pay-Per-View.
“Going forward, I actually pitched. Initially, my idea was to bring us together as a group and work against DX. I wanted our group to be version 1 of Hardyz and Edge & Christian. At the beginning I came up with the concept of version 1. It was like a prototype version, and it didn’t happen.
As we went that night and had a mutual respect, it was the right call. I have a look on my face, where my eyes are up and they are opening wide, I am drowned out by the crowd giving us a big standing applause 24 hours after our match. I was so excited. The look you see is not working or being made. People can appreciate us to that level and our hard work and I can’t believe we beat our ass for them the previous night.
Matt Hardy is certainly a pleasure to work with at AEW and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. His contribution to the pro wrestling world will never be forgotten and he will be remembered as a legend in the business.
