Kelly Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, apologized to an Instagram user after she resorted to “name calling” in an online exchange Wednesday.
The 33-year-old Morning After podcast host called out a critic on Wednesday after she posted a rude message in the comments section of one of her recent posts.
“SHE IS [Stafford] Just a little make-up, so women can choose it. If you weren’t married, you would be too,” the report said, to which Kelly responded in an Instagram story, “Typically a misogynist pig. Happy holidays!”
Last year’s Super Bowl champion Kelly, 34, who has four children, went back hours later and apologized to the critic.
“I resorted to naming things I didn’t like,” Kelly said in a separate Instagram story. “So I apologize [the user]but maybe you should think if someone said that to your wife or daughters… I’m sure you’d be very upset.
“I’m not upset because if you listened to my podcast last night you know I’m insecure about my looks… It’s the reason I rarely wear makeup. That’s a big reason why I love my thirties because I’m finally comfortable in my own skin. I know what I stand for and my values, and knowing who I am gives me confidence.”
Kelly ended her message by asking the person in question to apologize, but also noted how “hurt you would be if the tables were turned.”
“Name-calling is not something I like, so please accept my apologies, but understand how hurtful you will be if the tables are turned,” he said.
After the exchange, some of Kelly’s fans took to Instagram, where they thanked the mother of four for always keeping it real.
“Thank you for showing so many people that you don’t have to wear makeup or conform to other people’s ideas of beauty to be beautiful! You are an amazing role model for so many women, young women and people in general,” one fan commented, while another said, “You are beautiful inside and out. You’re raising strong women to feel confident.”
College sweethearts, Kelly has been married to Stafford since 2015, and they have four daughters together: 5-year-old twins Chandler and Sawyer, 4-year-old Hunter, and 2-year-old Tyler.
