The band played Brighton Center on Sunday 8th January in support of their new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language.

During the show, Healy supported those on strike now and in recent weeks and called out those who criticized them in the media.

“Although they may be good people, Fiona Bruce and Richard Madeleys and people in the media are allowing this story to happen. [of criticising strikers] If you’re a nurse or a police officer or a firefighter or in the public sector, keep going,” she said to cheers from the crowd.

“Don’t be happy just for the word nurse!” He then replied: “If you work in the public sector, by proxy you know more about what resonates with the British public than any idiot on TV or on stage.

“Don’t be fooled by this story. I don’t doubt that there is sincerity, but they wouldn’t be there if they believed otherwise.

A review of the 1975 At The Best concert at Madison Square Garden in New York, NME wrote: “It’s the kind of night that could only happen in 1975, the kind of night that gets you buzzing and makes you remember why you love live music in the first place, and goes home and thinks out loud. as one fan did before taking the subway: “I didn’t know how much I needed this.” The concert is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Healy has made headlines at various times for his on-stage antics through his North American At The Best tour. Last month in Kentucky, for example, he had the phrase “I’m a man” tattooed on his chest on stage. The tour also featured a series of concept interludes that saw Healy pampering himself on a sofa, doing push-ups and eating a raw steak.

The 1975 At Their Very Best UK & Ireland tour kicks off in Bournemouth tonight (January 9) with singer-songwriter and Dirty Hit bandmate Bonnie Kemplay as the newly announced support act continues. An intimate show for War Child at Manchester’s Gorilla is also set for February 1.
