On Tuesday, hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion took the stand to testify against Canadian rapper Tory Lanez — and became emotional as she told the story. The 2020 debate took a dark turn.
The stallion entered the Los Angeles courthouse in a purple suit as he was cheered by a group of supporters, several holding a banner reading “We stand with Megan.”
The rapper, whose legal name is Megan Peet, seemed incredulous when prosecutors asked if she knew Lanez. This was reported by the LA Times.
“I don’t feel good,” he said when asked if he was nervous. “I can’t believe I have to come in here and do this.”
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is charged with assault with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm in July 2020 after he allegedly shot the rapper in the leg.
Megan testified that the shooting happened when she and Lanez were returning from a party at Kylie Jenner’s house. They were accompanied by Megan’s longtime friend Lanes and bodyguard Kelsey Harris.

She said Lanez was upset at being asked to leave the party and turned around in the car to tell Megan that she should “stop lying” to Harris about their relationship.
The “WAP” rapper told the court that he occasionally had sex with Lanez – who Harris – who was “in love” with Lanez – learned.
According to Megan, an argument ensued and Lanez called both women “beaters and hoes.”
The argument turned into their music career, Megan said – and she asked to get out of the car. As he was leaving, Lanez fired several shots at him and yelled, “dance, bitch!” At least one slime hit his leg.
“I am in shock. “I’m scared,” Megan recalled during her testimony. “I hear gunshots and I can’t believe he’s shooting at me.”
She told the court she got back into the car and they drove off as she tried to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile, according to Megan, Lanez offered the women $1 million each if they promised not to tell the police.
The car was pulled over by police a few minutes later on Hollywood Boulevard.
Jurors saw body camera footage showing police ordering the four passengers out of the car and onto the ground before arresting them.
When asked why she didn’t report the shooting at first, Megan said she didn’t trust the police and feared for Lanez’s life.
“That’s when we’re at the peak of police brutality,” he said, referring to the 2020 protests that followed the killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. “I felt like if I said, ‘This guy shot me,’ they would shoot first and ask questions later.”
“I don’t feel safe in the car. “I don’t feel safe even with the police,” Megan said.
“Cooperation with police officers in the black community is truly unacceptable,” he added.
Lanez did not look the accuser in the eye in the courtroom, reports the LA Times – but she took notes during his testimony.
The Canadian star’s defense team suggested the fight was between Megan and Harris – although they did not specifically claim that Harris fired the shots.
Lanez’s attorney, George Mgdesian, said his client’s DNA was not found on the gun prosecutors say was used in the attack.
Harris is expected to take the stand later this week.
If convicted, Lanez could face more than 22 years in prison.
