Meghan Markle could be relaunching personal website; expert claims: She’s ‘trying to reclaim her identity’

Is Meghan Markle quietly preparing for a return to her lifestyle guru days? A royal connoisseur it seems.

The Duchess of Sussex has been mulling a return to her now-defunct lifestyle blog “The Tug” since earlier this month, according to “To D for Daily” podcast host Kinsey Schofield.

A spokesperson for the former American actress, 41, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“I believe Meghan is planning to relaunch ‘The Tig’ in February,” Schofield said. Started on I think ‘The Tig’ fits perfectly with Meghan’s ultimate goal, which seems to be to be influential rather than royal.”

“‘The Tig’ trademark was re-filed by Meghan’s team in February 2022, with a launch date of February 14, 2023,” Schofield said. “Valentine’s Day is a special date for Meghan as it was the day the Sussexes announced their pregnancy. [with their daughter] Lily It was also the day Princess Diana confirmed she was pregnant with Prince Harry.”

Markle shut down her lifestyle website in 2017, months after she started dating Harry. The site – which aims to share Markle’s personal impressions as well as her passion for food and travel – was created in 2014. Its name is inspired by the Italian wine Tignanello.

“After nearly three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye Tug,” he wrote. “What started as a passion project (my little engine that could be) turned into inspiration, support, fun and a serious community. You brightened my days and filled the experience with so much joy. . Explore, keep laughing and taking risks, and ‘be the change you want to see in the world.’ Above all, never forget your worth – as I have told you time and time again: You, my dear friend, are enough. Thank you for everything.”

In 2019, Markle’s business manager filed documents in the US to retain the rights to her site until 2021. However, a Palace spokesperson said at the time that “there are absolutely no plans to relaunch ‘The Tig’.”

“The sustainable trademark is to prevent false branding, to prevent others from being or associated with Duchess,” the spokesperson added.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as senior royals in 2020. At the time, he cited what he saw as racist treatment of the Duchess by the media and a lack of support from the palace. After moving to California, Markle started a podcast titled “Archetypes” in 2022, which topped Spotify charts around the world. In December, a six-part Netflix documentary of the couple was released. On January 10, Harry’s memoir, “Spear,” broke the record for the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.

Markle was conspicuously absent while Harry led a media tour to promote his book. Schofield suspected the mother-of-two was laying low on purpose as she prepared to launch her solo project.

“A successful lifestyle and digital brand would put Meghan in the same categories as Paltrow, Jessica Alba or even Kim Kardashian,” Schofield said. “The idea is to brand everything around a property that existed before Meghan married into the royal family to show that Meghan has achieved success on her own.”

Romano Law co-managing partner Shaliz Sadig Romano said the trademark filing does not reveal an official launch date. However, there is “intent to use.”

“There is a genuine intent to use the trademark in commerce,” he said. “I don’t think she would go through the trouble of putting together all the paperwork, hiring an attorney, paying the filing fees and going through the process if she really had no intention. But sometimes people have no intention. file together and things change, circumstances change. That reflects reality. Sometimes people are using a mark, and then after a year, they’re out of business, they sell it or Something happens. That’s language — that’s a true intent. Use the trademark. I would think that’s the intent if she’s doing it.”

“It seems she’s doing this in hopes of reviving ‘The Tig,’ whatever that form may be,” continued Sadieg Romano. “It may be a fix, but it sounds like she’s interested in doing all kinds of things with the next chapter of her career.”

The file shows a “published for opposition” date of Valentine’s Day. However, Sadig Romano said that this date does not indicate any sort of launch date. The date, he said, is “an interesting coincidence”, but not within Markle’s control.

“That means an examiner has reviewed the application and doesn’t see any issues with it. So, it then goes into opposition, which means you then have it come before a third party and oppose it. For example, ‘I object to this registration. I think it is confusing with my trademark.’ … Assuming there is no opposition, it will proceed to the process of going to registration because it is intended to use, it cannot obtain registration unless it shows use. That is the last for it. The stage is, it has to be shown that it’s launched, it’s being used.”

“If you are not using [the trademark] Even so, it’s smart to file an intent to use because you’re getting that application before someone else does.” he noted. “With trademarks, you really need to show that You either use it, or you lose it. February 14 is not the launch date. … But she could still announce it today. She could have announced it on Valentine’s Day. She could just launch it. This will help her because it will show that she is using the trademark in commerce.”

Schofield said the reboot of “The Tug” could mean new opportunities for Markle to grow her brand as the couple continues to live a financially independent life in California. She could be “a mini Martha Stewart” with a site that could go toe-to-toe with Paltrow’s goop. Even a wine inspired by the site’s name wouldn’t be out of the question.

“Tug 2.0 will feature mom content,” Schofield said. “Meghan’s animated series, ‘Pearl,’ was canceled by Netflix before it even started … but if Meghan can build a mom brand , so of course she can expand into that field and find opportunities elsewhere.”

“Meghan once expressed her desire for her own cooking series,” he said. “‘The Tig’ will give her that platform again. Short-form digital videos that they can take to someone like Netflix and show them the analytics to make their case for a bigger opportunity.”

According to Schofield, a makeover would reflect Markle’s maternal instincts.

“I’d expect lists of Archie and Lily’s favorite books, go-to snacks, DIY projects,” she said. “Candid entries about how she manages her time or stress; a five-minute makeup routine for moms on the go; mini meditations for the busy mom; travel, interior design, interviews, those kinds of posts. “

In August 2022, Markle teased The Kit that she was “coming back to Instagram.” But later in the same interview, the outlet reported that they “are no longer sure if she will actually return to Instagram.”

“Harry and Meghan have told us repeatedly through multiple projects that Meghan has given up everything for Harry,” Schofield said. “Maybe this is Meghan trying to regain her identity, telling the world that she is more than Harry plus 1.”

The Sussexes are known to leave the public in suspense. There has been much speculation surrounding the dates of their Netflix documentaries and Harry’s memoirs. Resuming the lifestyle, if it were, would be no different.

“It’s their general MO to keep all their launches under wraps,” Schofield said. “It allows Sussex to move the goalposts without looking like failures. … If we don’t see a February release for ‘The Tig,’ it’s only because the product isn’t finished yet.” But it’s an important way for Meghan to build the brand. Apart from being Harry’s wife herself, and I’m sure that’s a priority for her.”

And without the constraints of royal life, Markle will have the freedom and control to express herself.

“I don’t think ‘The Tig’ will be a controversial outlet,” Schofield said. “She can be political, but we expect her to be, so it’s less of an influence.” Perhaps the only way ‘The Tig’ can wrest her title is if she goes full Gwyneth Paltrow goop and lets loose. own… candle. Please don’t, Meghan.”
