The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority has taken a dim view of Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion deal to buy video games company Activision.

In interim findings published on Wednesday, the regulator said it had “provisionally concluded that Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Activision could result in higher prices, less choice, or less innovation for UK gamers. “

The findings represent a serious setback for the proposed acquisition, although it is not yet the end of the road for the deal. Interested parties have a few weeks to propose possible solutions to the identified problems. The CMA said it would consider the responses and publish its final report by April 26.
