Mississippi State football coach Mike Leach has died at age 61 of complications from heart disease.
News of Leach’s serious medical problem first surfaced Sunday afternoon as the college football world prayed for the innovative coach.
“Mike was a giving and caring husband, father and grandfather,” Leach’s family said in a statement. “As a final act of charity, he was able to participate in organ donation at UMMC. We have been supported and uplifted by the love and prayers of our family, friends, Mississippi State University, hospital staff, and football fans around the world. Thank you for sharing the joy of our beloved husband and father’s life.

Before joining Mississippi State, Leach previously coached at Texas Tech and Washington State.
