Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion and top-ten pound-for-pound Great Stipe Miocic was disappointed when he never gave up an interim title fight after his crushing knockout defeat to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260.
The UFC continued and booked an interim title match between Cyril Gane and Derrick Lewis, but Miocic feels he should be the prime candidate for a rematch with Ngannou, who is currently tied 1-1.
“I would love to hear it,” Miocic said recently when he appeared on The MMA Hour (h / t MMA Fighting) “I understand what the UFC is doing, it’s business, but at the same time I think I deserve a trilogy fight.
“I was not asked for an interim fight. Who knows if I should have taken it but asked if it was fine. Just toes in the water. I don’t know [if I would have taken it]. We don’t know. It’s over ”
“Listen, I’m used to it,” he added. “That’s what it is. It’s business. I get it but at the same time, I feel like I deserved the trilogy fight. Everyone except me got one.
Miocic is set to meet with UFC Brass in December to discuss his next fight, and the 39-year-old will try to negotiate a heavyweight match against Ngannou with a trilogy fight or former light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound. King John Jones.
“I’m down,” Miocic said of fighting Jones. “I don’t think he wanted it. I don’t know the whole story. .
“As I always say, I fight with someone [but] I really want to fight that trilogy, ”he continued. “It is Miocic disappointed he wasn’t offered interim title shot, wants Ngannou trilogy or Jones next Mine was. I want it back. Definitely get the trilogy [in 2022]. Get my shot back in the title. Get my belt back on. To normalcy. Everything is back to normal.
Miocic is currently # 2 in the UFC Heavyweight Rankings and is considered by many to be the UFC Heavyweight GOAT. They have had significant stoppage victories over Daniel Cormier, Jr. dos Santos and Alistair Overeem to name but a few.
