Opelika’s mother and her boyfriend have been charged in the death of a 2-year-old girl last week.
Opelika police announced the arrests of Chasity Umeko Baker, 28, and Jamario Emmanuel Mitchell, 28, on Monday night’s murder charges.
A 2-year-old girl was found dead on Friday. Authorities have not yet publicly released her name or how she was killed.
According to Lee County Coroner Bill Harris and Opelika police, officers responded to a 911 call Friday morning at a home on Cherry Avenue. Once at the scene, first responders found the girl unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child’s body was taken to the Alabama Department of Pathology in Montgomery for post-mortem examination. No other details have been released.
Baker and Mitchell are being held in the Lee County Jail on $ 450,000 bond.
