Soldiers said a motorcyclist followed in Wasilla and collided with an ATV after the chase ended. Both the motorcyclist and the ATV driver were seriously injured.
Soldiers tried to stop traffic near Pitman Road and Karen Street at around 2:35 p.m., but failed to stop the motorcycle, the soldiers wrote in an online statement. The statement said the driver, later identified as Charles Steward of Wasilla, chased the soldiers for about six minutes.
“The soldiers ended the chase in the interest of public safety, however, the stewards continued to drive recklessly,” the soldiers wrote.
Soldiers said he collided with an ATV at an intersection in Pittman Street. Soldiers said both the steward and the ATV driver were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Seward was charged with second-degree assault, escaping, driving licenses revoked and “a bunch of moving violations,” the soldiers wrote.
