I’m not, An orphaned gorilla photographed in an incredible selfie in 2019, has died in the arms of her caregivers… according to a spokeswoman for the National Park
Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo unraveled the sad news of passing her beloved orphan mountain gorilla, who said she died last month after battling a chronic illness.
According to the park … Dakasi “took her final breath in the loving arms of her caretaker and lifelong friend Andre Bouma.”
Bouma has cared for the gorilla since she was trapped in a dead mother’s body and taken to the Park’s Senkweque Center, where she has lived for more than a decade. Viranga Ndkasi’s mother is said to have been killed by the armed forces in a series of gorilla assassinations.
Bouma says, “It is a privilege to support and care for such loving beings, especially knowing the trauma Endakasi suffered at an early age.”
If you don’t remember … Ndakasi went viral in 2019, thanks to a wonderful photo of her and another orphan gorilla on a park ranger’s selfie. Virunga National Park responded to all the attention it received at the time, saying … “Those gorilla gallows always behave slyly so it was a perfect picture of their true personality!”
Bouma adds … “I loved her as a child and her cheerful personality made me smile in my face whenever I interacted with her. In Virunga, she misses us all. She’s all our life at Senkwekwe.”
