Nick Saban brought tears to ‘self-absorbed’ Alabama fans

Nick Saban has plenty of qualified and “self-absorbed” Alabama fans.

The 70-year-old Saban – who has won seven national titles, including six with the Crimson Tide – has flirted with Alabama fans who believe they have been ruined by the show’s consistent success.

“We’re going to get everyone’s best game,” Saban said on Wednesday during their “Nick Saban Show” pre-Thanksgiving rant. “And I don’t know why people don’t understand it. You can say it’s not fair to our players to get everyone’s best game, but they do. They have to be able to compete through it and play on it.

Saban, who led Alabama to a 10-1 record (6-1 in the SEC West), said his fans no longer enjoy victories.

“When I came here, everybody was happy when we won the game. Well, now, we’re not happy to win the game anymore,” Saban said, adding that his team will face Auburn on Saturday, Dec. 4 against the SEC title game showdown. 1 will face Georgia. “We’re not happy to win anymore. It’s a game. I mean, we feel we have to win something and I don’t think it’s fair to the players.

“Our players work their butt off to be at their best and criticize what they work hard to do so that you can be entertained. So, you can have joy, pride and passion for what they do.

Many of Saban’s players are in favor, but frustrated coaches said they are still just college athletes who can now take advantage of their name, image and likability (NIL) but are not paid for by their schools.

“Come on. Give me a break. It’s not professional football, ”Saban said. “These guys don’t get paid to play here. They are representing all of you. You have to be proud and happy to support them and appreciate what they do and have a little gratitude. Nobody wants to win any worse than them.

“So, all of you are self-absorbed. You can’t look past your own self to appreciate what other people are doing.”
