As violent crime continues to devastate the city, New York City is searching for three muggers who killed one person and injured another on the sidewalk.

A cold-blooded murder occurred around 4.50pm on Saturday evening in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, where three strangers arrested Jonathan Pena, 32 and a 46-year-old man.

Two muggers pointed pistols at the victim, one with a green laser sight and the other with a high-capacity drum magazine, surveillance video.

After the third stickup man rushed to the victims, they raised their hands in the air and snatched the gold string from Pena.

As violent crime continues to ravage the city, New York City police are searching for the trio.

As the burglars got distracted with the chain, another victim tried to flee inside a nearby restaurant.

The muggers then opened fire with both guns, fired wildly in the 1400 block of Macomb’s Road and shot both victims.

The three fraudsters were last seen fleeing north on Macomb’s Road in a black Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Pena was transported by private means to the Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where he died, police said.

Paramedics transported the 46-year-old male victim to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

The brazen murder comes as New York City faces a surge of violent crimes.

On Thursday morning, a 27-year-old female jogger was strangled and raped in Central Park near Swan Lake.

25-year-old Paulie Velez was arrested and charged in the attack after police say she tried to sell the victim’s cell phone at a Times Square store.

The Central Park attack took place just 25 minutes before a registered sex offender attempted to rape a woman on Randall’s Island and 45 minutes before another victim was sexually assaulted on the Harlem River Walking Trail.

Howard Shaw, 38, was charged with the Randall’s Island attack two days after his release from state prison, where he was sentenced for the 2005 robbery and rape.

New York City, meanwhile, continues to ramp up in other forms of violent crime.

By the end of October, the number of criminal larcenies increased by 8 percent from last year, to 18,898 and by 3.7 percent to 30,768.

The killings are down slightly, from 407 last year to 399 so far this year.

Rape was up 2.1 percent year over year, at 1,241, and robberies rose 1.6 percent to 10,996.

NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea has repeatedly made public calls to lawmakers to tighten up on improved bail laws last year, allowing many suspects to walk free without bond.

‘Effective crime fighting foreshadows the collaborative effort of all aspects of the criminal justice landscape – as well as society as a whole,’ he said earlier this month.

‘Additionally, the work of our brave officers must be strengthened by meaningful consequences that will send a result message to those who find themselves on the road to crime.’

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls are strictly confidential.
