The Mets are trying to do an underground search for the head of baseball operations.
But a name with some recent sounds can be crossed off the list. Paul DePodesta, who works for the Padres and Mets for Sandy Alderson, told the Post he was not leaving his current position as the Cleveland Browns’ chief strategy officer.
DePodesta is assistant GM to Oakland’s Billy Bean and a prominent architect of moneyball philosophy. He later became GM of the Dodgers at age 31. After being fired, he was hired by the Padres CEO, Alderson, as a special assistant before being promoted to executive VP.
2010 .Dipodesta was one of Alperson’s first recruits since becoming the Mets GM after the season. He was VP of player development and scouting, leaving the Mets’ 2015 World Series to join the Browns.
