Peter Ackroyd’s death: ‘SNL’ honors brother of former cast member and writer Dan Ackroyd


The sketch comedy show has announced that Peter Ackroyd, brother of former comedian and writer and Dan Ackroyd, has died on “Saturday Night Live.” He was 66 years old.

Like his older brother, Peter Ackroyd got his start in the show business as a member of the famous Second City comedy troupe in Toronto. He joined “SNL” for one season in 1980 – after Dan Ackroyd left the show – as a cast member and writer, where he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Variety or Musical.

“SNL” Did the salutation Marcol’s “Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” star at the Saturday show hosted by Simu Liu.

The title card in the issue is written “Peter Ackroyd 1955 – 2021”. The show’s Twitter account shares a short film starring Aikroyd in 1979, “Java junkie,” In which the actor tries to dispel his grief with coffee.

Aykroyd has reached out to family members for comment and comment.

Peter and Dan Ackroyd’s professional lives continue to cross. In the early 90s, the two co-wrote the 1991 comedy horror film “Nothing But Trouble,” starring Chevy Chase, John Candy, Demi Moore, and veteran Aikroyd – later awarded him the Razzie Award for his performance. Peter Ackroyd co-created the Canadian sci-fi drama “PSI Factor”, hosted by Dan Ackroyd.

Peter Ackroyd stepped in for his brother to voice Elwood Blues for the 1997 animated TV series Spinoff “The Blues Brothers”, originally starring Don Ackroyd and John Belushi. Belushi, who died in 1982, was replaced by his brother Jim Belushi in the series.

He has appeared in iconic films including “Dragnet” and “Coneheads”.

Recently speaking, Dan Akroyd weighed his own acting career and legacy in the “Ghostbusters” franchise.

“I think Bill and I killed the next one. Or, maybe we should wait,” he said. “Why not use the living Ghostbusters – Ernie (Hudson), Billy (Murray) and I – for four, five and six? Let’s go. Then we have time to pay tribute. Death will take us soon enough.”
