Judge Bruce Schroeder, who is overseeing the Rittenhouse murder trial, made headlines Monday on his decision to drop a sixth charge against an 18-year-old for possession of a dangerous weapon as a minor. Rittenhouse was 17 at the time of the deadly firing.

After prosecutors acknowledged that Rittenhouse’s rifle was not a short-barrel, Schroeder sued because the law had a corvette for such weapons.

Funke cited Wisconsin gun rights advocates who noted an exception for shotguns and rifles that allowed “16 and 17-year-olds” to hunt, but this did not apply to Rittenhouse because they were “not in Kenosha for hunting.” There is no mention of any legal immunity for short-barreled guns.
The Facebook post claims that “Rittenhouse violated Wisconsin law by possessing a rifle, but it is” perfectly legal “for teenagers to carry an assault-style rifle in Kenosha,” Funke continued. “At best, it’s not proven. At worst, it’s not accurate. Either way, we rate the post wrong.”
Critics have barged into Politifact for publishing false information in the wake of the shootings.
