On Wednesday, a postal worker was shot on the way in the Tarrant neighborhood.
The shooting took place just before 2 pm near the intersection of Etawah Street and Enfield Street.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the postman had just delivered mail to a resident and was on his way back to his truck when a car pulled over and someone fired at him, breaking the window of the truck.
The injured postman got out of his truck and ran to a house first for help before passing on to two others.
Resident Darnella Austin said he fired four shots and said the postman was hit in the lip and lower back.
Police said he was taken to UAB Hospital with injuries that were initially not believed to be life-threatening.
A motive has not yet been determined. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
