Next week is cold
A cold snap could see snow return over the next week.
The “winter spray” will be accompanied by freezing temperatures and freezing snow from Tuesday – with the chance to sprinkle white material.
Charts for January 24 show a 50 to 60 per cent chance of snow in the Scottish Highlands, with a 25 per cent chance in Northern England.
Mercury declines significantly to zero in the Southeast, -1C in the Midlands and -2C in parts of Wales.
The Met Office’s long-range forecast for the end of February states: “This period is likely to see a gradual transition to more unstable conditions.
“Heavy rainfall is likely to occur throughout the northwest, particularly in the later period, with dry conditions above average in the southeast, particularly in the former.
“Significantly, strong winds are possible in the north.
“Temperatures are likely to be slightly above the overall average. Some cold intervals are still expected, which brings the risk of occasional snow, mostly on the northern hills.
