Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t ask any of their British friends to be Lillibet’s godparents, according to royal commentator


Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex welcome their second child, Lillibet Diana, on June 4, 2021. In a statement, the pair said: “We were blessed with the arrival of our daughter Lily. She is more than we could have imagined, and we are grateful for the love and prayers we have received from around the world. For our family during this special time Thank you for your continued kindness and support.”

Since then, royal fans have had lots of questions on their minds about Lily and when the couple will release their first pictures of their daughter. There is some speculation as to who will be named after him which may reportedly take place at Windsor Castle. But even if that were the case, according to one royal commentator, the Sussexes “won’t consider any of their British friends as godparents”.

George Clooney shuts down rumors that he was asked to be Archie’s godfather in 2019

Before the christening of Meghan and Harry’s son in July 2019, there was a lot of discussion about who their godparents would be. One name that kept popping up was: George Clooney. but during an appearance Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor told the late night talk show host that he was not asked to be Archie’s godfather and was in fact very busy.

“That would be a bad idea. I shouldn’t be the godfather. I’m the father of twins; I can barely do that,” said Clooney, “I’m not going to be the godfather. I promise you… [I] No one should be the godfather.”

Some of the people the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly tapped to be Archie’s godparents include Harry’s friend Charlie van Straubenzee, the Duke’s former nanny Tiggy Pettifer and Prince Charles Mark Dyer’s former equerry.

When it comes to Lily’s godparents one commentator couldn’t believe anyone from the UK would be asked.

Royal expert Daisy McAndrew spoke about who the couple would be and didn’t want to tell the Express: “There are a lot of rumors about who the godparents are going to be. I can tell you it won’t be Prince William. That’s it. It’s because the royals don’t have siblings as godparents. I guess when you look back who they chose for Archie, the old granny, like the old father, very British people. I doubt that This time they will be full of Americans.

She continued: “I think it will be another departure from their old life into their new life.”

Many royal fans wondered if they might choose the famous talk show host to be their daughter’s godmother after Meghan and Harry’s big primetime special with Oprah Winfrey.

However, Oprah has since set the record straight by revealing that she’s not the godmother because well, she “doesn’t need to be.”

“I don’t need to be a godmother. I mean, I’m a godmother by default. I’m a neighbor, [and] I am a friend,” the media mogul said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
