Islam Makhachev knocked out three top lightweights after his UFC Vegas 31 victory over Thiago Moises on Saturday, July 17.
Rafael dos Anjos, Tony Ferguson, and Michael Chandler were three names that emerged as potential opponents that Islam Makhachev would like to pursue on his way to the top. However, neither of them has publicly accepted the challenge. From Makhchev’s latest tweet, it can be inferred that there has been no personal conversation either.
On Twitter earlier today, Islam Makhachev slammed the RDA, Ferguson and Chandler for being silent on the callout. Dagestani claimed that the fighters were probably waiting for the return of a “broken” Conor McGregor.
UFC President Dana White has suggested that Name Benil Darishu As the next opponent of Islam Makhachev, and the rising Dagestani lightweight, the matchup has no problem. However, it is clear that he would like to fight one of the three 155-pounders he named in the event.
Islam Makhachev wants all the smoke
Islam Makhachev called out Rafael dos Anjos in a post-fight octagonal interview soon after the victory. The two were previously scheduled to meet twice – first at UFC 254 in October and then at UFC Vegas 14 in November – but both times the matches were cancelled. Rafael dos Anjos contracted COVID-19 before the first fight, and for the second time, it was Islam Makhachev who had to be withdrawn due to a staph infection.
This time, Islam Makhachev wants the RDA to take three to four months to prepare for battle but be ready nonetheless.
In a later interview with ESPN, Islam Makhachev challenged Michael Chandler live on air, who was on desk duty for the official UFC broadcasters for the night. Makhachev said he would like to test Chandler’s skills as the latter comes from Bellator.
