Reggie Miller’s suggestion to James Harden bites the Knicks

Reggie Miller reminded him that James Harden was a former MVP. Then the Nets star went out and played like that.

And the Knicks paid the price.

Harden’s dominance helped the Nets to a 112-110 victory in front of an 18,081 sold-out crowd at the Barclays Center.

Harden, who came out of a horrendous 4-15 shooting and seven-turner in Saturday’s defeat to Phoenix, admitted that he was struggling to balance the scoring and facilitation with All-Star Kyrie Irving out.

Miller spoke with Harden before Tuesday’s match, reminding him that he was a former MVP. “What do you mean when you don’t know when to score and when to pass?” Asked the Hall of Famer-turned-TNT broadcaster. “You never had this problem in Houston?”

Whatever Miller said, it worked. Harden had 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. He had 15 points in the first quarter and 28 points in the interim, with Miller – one of the greatest Knick-killers ever – out of his outburst.

“Yeah, it definitely was. Reggie made me go. He made me go for sure,” Harden said. “But yeah, it was just the ultimate confidence, the best player-league genre mentality. That was the motivation before the game, all I wanted.

Harden had a bad follow-up dunk on a 14-0 run to start the third quarter, with the game’s storytelling flex and celebratory roar.

“This is my first [follow dunk] My career, 19 years, so I had to put it out there, “Harden said.” It wasn’t great when I saw the highlight, but it was great. That’s important ”

Kevin Durant came in Tuesday’s game against the Knicks with an average of 35.6 minutes. 2.5 more minutes than he logged last season and two healthy Achilles tendons from 2015-16 when he was just 27 years old.

In addition, Durant is often tasked with protecting his opponents’ top forward threat and playing back-to-backs, two things that saved the Nets from last season. Nash and the performance team know he needs to find places to try to pronounce him.

“I am a basketball player. I enjoy playing. I want to play for 48 minutes. That’s what it is, ”Durant said.

The Nets sent Nick Claxton to practice with Long Island, then recalled D’Aran Sharp, a young big and first-round pick from the G League before the game.
