This is a long way to superstorm for AEW’s “absolute” Ricky Starks. After finally getting his shot in the big time, Ricky broke his neck in the spring of 2021. His recovery was not spectacular. Things can get worse if there is no additional testing
Starks, in conversation Natural culture, Talked about how AEW is taking his time and being careful with his injury. He said he has been cleared since July, but appreciated more time to continue healing. They discussed the influx of new talents and whether AEW OGs would accept.
“So don’t screw it up, the people here are basically building it up. Like any kind of building piece, we had it, then we brought them in, then we had the guys pulling it out, they’re the stars they’re building now. It’s very cool parts. Punk, Brian and Adam Cole. I’m happy to have it because the iron sharpens the iron and we can’t improve if we wrestle the same 50 guys we did in the last ten years, so I’m a fan of it.
It is clear that AEW believes in using these new, established names to work with their younger stars. CM Punk Powerhouse made an immediate star out of the Hobbs, for example, in a big match with a huge crowd at the AEW Rampage: Grand Slam.
While it remains to be seen whether the goodwill built between AEW and his fan base can continue, it is clear that there is harmony in the locker room. The legend’s background, Karmudjan CM Punk, also claims that it is non-drama.
AEW will face off with the main roster WWE show for the first time this Friday night. The free-to-air (and commercial free!) On YouTube airs from 9-10PM Eastern and features Brian Danielson vs Minoru Suzuki against the second hour of SmackDown this week on FS1. Rampage starts at 10PM on TNT, and will face off in a half-hour over-the-top competition, including SmackDown Becky Lynch vs Sasha Banks.
Do you think AEW can maintain this level of locker room harmony? Let us know in the comments!
