Sadie Frost has revealed she had “serious” postpartum depression after having two children two years apart.
56-year-old fashion designer and actor Jude Law, 48, had two children — Iris, born in 2000 and Rudy born in 2002 — before she divorced in 2003.
“Because I had two children so close and my life was going a hundred miles an hour, I was in postpartum depression,” Frost said The moments that made me Podcast.
“Then my whole world came roaring in and it was horrible for a few years everyday.”
Frost and the French businessman Flozzi said he believed his struggle with postpartum depression had “molded” him into an existing person.
“It made me a more determined person to become a stronger mother, more career-oriented and help other people,” she explained. “Get out but pack up, and make other people’s lives better and someone in pain, try and help as much as possible.
“For me, it’s shaped me into the person I am today.”
Explaining how it still affects her today, Frost added: “That post is always there -[trauma] Or it can trigger the fact that you are on edge. You are a little ‘broken, damaged’ person and you don’t fix it completely.
“I take everything, my mental health, seriously.”
The NHS Postpartum depression affects more than one in every 10 women within a year of childbirth, but many women are unaware that it can develop gradually.
Although slight depression, tears or anxiety are common in the first two weeks after childbirth, guidelines suggest seeking help if mental health symptoms persist longer.
