Slain NJ councilwoman’s family still waiting for police update nearly one week after her death

The father of New Jersey Councilwoman Eunice Domfor, who was shot and killed last week near her Sayreville home in what appeared to be a targeted killing, said Tuesday morning that her family is still grieving. It is in the dark about who shot their daughter and why.

He also said authorities have not yet provided an update on the suspects, whether they are pursuing them or if they have any leads.

“Until now, we have not heard anything yet,” Yunus’ father, Prince Domfor, told The Post when asked if the police had updated him on the case.

In the six days since Domfor’s bullet-riddled body was found slumped behind the wheel of his white Nissan SUV, neither local police nor the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office have spoken to the public about where the investigation stands. .

The prosecutor’s office did not respond to multiple inquiries from The Post asking if police had any suspects or if the killer was at large and a threat to the public. A spokesperson said only that there are “no updates to report at this time” because “the matter is still under investigation.”

A Sayreville Police Department Facebook post over the weekend asked residents who had security camera footage of Camelot at the La Mer complex where she lived between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. starting Feb. 1.

The post also said police are looking for anyone who may have dashboard camera footage of him traveling along three roads – Erneston Road, Gondick Drive or Point of Woods Drive – during the same hours.

Meanwhile, the councillor’s new husband posted another cryptic Facebook post on Monday in which he called his late wife an “angel” and said he had promised to see her by May.

“I know you breathe through me I will continue to celebrate you as I promised you I miss you my love,” wrote Domfor’s Nigerian pastor husband, Eze Kings. .

A memorial service will be held Wednesday night at Epic Church International in Sayreville. New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin is expected to speak with Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick and a family representative.

Authorities have not publicly speculated on a motive for the killing.

During a radio appearance on WNYC last Thursday, Garden State Gov. Phil Murphy said the single mother’s killing did not appear to be politically motivated.

Still, Murphy said it felt “very specific.”

“Unfortunately, very little is known right now,” Murphy said in his weekly sit-down with the radio show, According to NJ.com. “It doesn’t seem relevant to her position as an elected councilwoman in Sayreville.”

Domfor, a 30-year-old Republican, was elected in November 2021 after upsetting the incumbent Democrat.

A witness told The Post that the shooter fired about a dozen shots into Domfor’s car. This was backed up by police markers placed around the car.

Investigators have told The Post that a video camera captured Domfor talking to the shooter moments before his death.
