Stevie Nicks praised Lizzo’s “amazing” speech at the People’s Choice Awards

Stevie Nicks praised Lizzo for her “amazing” acceptance speech at this week’s People’s Choice Awards.

On Tuesday night (December 6), Lizzo picked up two awards at a ceremony in Santa Monica, California. She picked up the 2022 Song of the Year gong for “Special” single “About Damn Time” and won this year’s People’s Champion title.

The star’s mother, Shari Johnson-Jefferson, presented him with the final award. “She’s a champion for others, she builds you up, and she’s always in your corner,” she said of her daughter (via Rolling Stone).

After Lizzo took the stage, she admitted that she was initially hesitant to “accept” the honor.

“Because I’m the people’s champion, I don’t need a trophy to protect people,” explained the artist. “Since the beginning of my career, I have used my platform to empower marginalized voices.”

Lizzo then welcomed a group of 17 “activists and people who I think deserve the spotlight” to the stage. He introduced each of them by name and gave a brief explanation of how they are working to make a difference in their communities.

Late last night (December 7), Fleetwood Mac singer Nicks took to social media to share a tribute to her ‘dearest Lizzo’.

“I think your presentation at the People’s Choice Awards last night was not only so beautiful and so necessary~ you were honored for being a great woman of our time,” she said.

“I was so impressed and so impressed that you pulled it together and pulled it off.”

Nicks added, “It was awesome~ and everyone heard you. You gave all women a voice forever~ piper, singer, songwriter, future politician…?”

The singer-songwriter concluded by saying Lizzo’s “name is in the stars now.” You can see the message in the tweet above.

Lizzo recently spoke out about the racial stigmas and prejudices she believes are “inherent” in pop music, explaining that the genre has “racist roots.”
