What is the next CODA?
That’s the big question for the Sundance Film Festival, which on Wednesday announced its 2023 slate of 99 films.
Director Sian Heder’s heartwarming film about a hearing girl with deaf parents and a deaf brother won the Academy Award for best picture in March — a first for the 44-year-old festival in Park City, Utah. . Apple was smart enough to make the movie in 2021 for $25 million.
The Glam Mountain Gathering will return to private premieres for the first time since January 2020; however, it will save the popular streaming platform in place. During the second week of the festival, many films will be available to watch online from anywhere in the US.
Here’s a look at January’s big-name CEOs and upcoming major projects. However, the discovery of new gems like “CODA” at Sundance has everyone talking.
A convincing performance of “Catman” in the “Premiere” program. Based on a 2017 viral New Yorker story, director Suzanne Fogel’s film about the perils of modern dating stars Emilia Jones of CODA and Nicolas Brown of The Governorship.
Other notable premieres include Eileen, directed by William Oldroyd and starring Anne Hathaway, set in a Massachusetts prison; Sophie Barth’s sci-fi novel Pod Generation starring Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor; and Nicole Holofcener’s You Hurt My Feelings, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies.
USA Drama Nominee Ben Platt and Noah Galvin direct the hard-hitting summer vacation comedy “Theater Camp” and “Journal Dreams,” starring Jonathan Majors as an amateur bodybuilder. the well-received Sundance drama Jockey.

The festival has debuted some great documentaries in recent years, including Boy State and Three Strangers. Expect an engaging, conversational take on Still: The Michael J. Fox Movie, a deep dive into the life of the Back to the Future actor. The same goes for Little Richard: My Everything, a 2020 film about the singer who died.
