New Mexico State Police on Tuesday released surveillance video of a deadly parking lot shooting involving a basketball player from a rival school on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
A rooftop camera overlooking the parking lot showed New Mexico State University junior Mike Peake being approached from behind by three men and struck before opening fire. The shooting killed 19-year-old Brandon Travis.
Peake was suspended indefinitely in connection with the No. 19 shooting, although he has not been charged. He was hospitalized after the shooting with a leg wound that required multiple surgeries. Travis died hours before the Lobos were to play the Aggies outside the University of New Mexico dorm. That game was canceled along with the second leg on December 3.

Authorities say Travis conspired with two other University of New Mexico students and a 17-year-old girl to lure Peake to campus. The video shows three men approaching Peake, his back turned, and one of them hitting Peake in the leg with a baseball bat.
In the video, Peek could be seen firing the gun several times. Travis was shot in the left leg before he was seen on video pulling out a gun and firing multiple shots at one of the men, according to police, who said he was shot four times. The video shows Peake bouncing on his right leg and meeting three of his teammates in a car.

Police said the men put items in the trunk of the car before driving off. Pick’s weapon turned out to be one of the items. New Mexico State University officials identified the players as Issa Muhammad, Marchelus Avery and Anthony Roy. Those players were suspended and will miss Wednesday night’s game against Santa Clara. None of them have been charged in the shooting.
New Mexico State University announced Tuesday that it will hire an outside, third-party investigator to look into the shooting, separate from the police investigation.
“We will be very transparent throughout this process,” NMSU Chancellor Dan Arvizu said in a statement. “We owe it to our community and to everyone involved with our university. The selected firm is encouraged to review any public documents related to this case and speak with NMSU employees, students or other individuals so that we can fully understand will have the right to speak. facts.”
