Speaking at the UFC Vegas 32 media day, TJ Dilshaw was asked about his upcoming fight with Sandagen, which headlines the cards. The former champion said the following:
“It’s definitely a number one contender fight. To be honest, it’s a real title fight. I wasn’t too impressed with Aljaman (Sterling) and Yan in their last fight. I think Corey Sandhagen is in the weight category at the moment The toughest ones and it’s a true title fight. I’m a true winner to come back and it’s time to prove it.”
TJ Dilshaw’s prediction for Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan 2
Current bantamweight champion Aljaman Sterling won his belt after Petr Yan was disqualified from his fight due to an illegal knee. The men are expected to have a rematch later this year.
Should TJ Dilshaw emerge victorious in his fight with Sandhagen, he is likely to face the winner of Sterling vs. He revealed that he believes it will be the Russian who will come out on top in that fight.
“I think Yan, I think he’s the better fighter. Looking at that last performance, he did very well with his gameplan against Sterling and I think he’ll win the next fight. I think I Will fight him,” said TJ Dilshaw.
Considering that TJ Dilshaw hasn’t competed in more than two years, a comeback fight against one of the most prolific knockout performers in the bantamweight division would be no warm welcome.
Sandhagen is coming up with two great finishes with a wheel kick TKO against Marlon Moraes and a Flying Knee KO against Frankie Edgar.
If Dilshaw wins, he will immediately rise above fellow top bantamweight contenders such as Rob Font and Jose Aldo.
Whether he is able to defeat such an opponent without the aid of PED remains to be seen and will remain a question mark until we see him competing again in the UFC octagon.
