Tenacious D share first new song in five years, ‘Video Games’

American comedy rock duo Tenacious D, composed of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, has released its first new song in five years titled “Video Games.”

The band released the track on May 13, 2023, along with a music video on their official YouTube channel. The video features Black and Gass dressed in medieval attire, playing the song while surrounded by fire and explosions.

“Video Games” has a heavy guitar riff and upbeat tempo, with lyrics that pay tribute to classic video games from the 1980s and 1990s. The chorus features Black and Gass singing, “Video games, we’re playing video games, yeah!”

The song is the first new material from Tenacious D since their 2018 album, “Post-Apocalypto,” which was also accompanied by an animated web series.

Fans of the band have been eagerly awaiting new material, and the release of “Video Games” has generated excitement on social media.

Tenacious D rose to fame in the late 1990s with their self-titled debut album, which featured the hit song “Tribute.” The band has since released four studio albums and has a devoted fan base that appreciates their unique blend of comedy and rock music.

It is unclear whether “Video Games” is a standalone single or a preview of a forthcoming album. However, the band has announced a North American tour starting in September 2023, with tickets going on sale on May 20, 2023.

Regardless of whether there is a new album on the horizon, the release of “Video Games” is sure to please fans of Tenacious D and serve as a reminder of their enduring appeal.
