PHOENIX – Terry Bradshaw believes Tom Brady will have a challenge on his hands.
Fox Sports signed Brady to a 10-year, $375 million deal to vault into its top NFL announcing booth after retirement. Brady announced his retirement from the NFL last week after seven Super Bowl titles and 23 seasons, and on Monday he said he plans to take a year off before moving into game analysis in 2024.
During Focus Sports Media Day ahead of the 2023 Super Bowl, the legendary Brad Shaw, a four-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Steelers, was asked what advice he had for Brady.
“It’s not going to be easy,” Bradshaw told reporters Tuesday. “The problem with Tom is that the whole world will be watching. Everybody wants to see how he does. And if he doesn’t live up to your expectations, you’re going to say it. So I don’t think the criticism is that bad.” thing that has come his way in his 20-plus years in the NFL. Bradshaw, who has been very successful in embodying each during his post-sports career, said Brady’s work ethic shouldn’t be a problem, but he did with the screen barrier between him and viewers. So he pointed out the challenge of developing kinship.
“Tom will carry on,” said Bradshaw, 74. “There’s TV and you. I am talking to you. I will not talk over your head. [or] below you. I’m going to talk to you right. We’re gonna have some fun. We’ll keep it simple. We are going to have a nice visit today. That is television. As soon as he can learn it, and relax. [the better he’ll be]”
Bradshaw said the entire Fox team is pulling for Brady. He also mentioned what a great job Greg Olson has done in his first season with Kevin Burkhart as the network’s top announcing team behind Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. And, with a twinkle in his eye, Bradshaw mocked the possibility of Brady starting behind Olsen on the depth chart.
“We all love. [Brady]Bradshaw said. “We’re pulling for him. I feel sorry for Greg Olsen who had a phenomenal year. So maybe they can start Tom on the other team.
Bradshaw got his start at CBS Sports as an analyst behind John Madden, and really found his footing when he moved from the booth to the studio.
Earlier this season, Bradshaw revealed that he had battled two types of cancer — bladder and skin — last year. The Post asked him to provide an update on his health status to his fans across the country.
“I’m fine,” he replied. “I just got out of the hospital. [Monday]. I had another treat. Didn’t sleep. Woke up at 1 in the morning, drove to New York and came out here. I’m a little beat today, but I’m good. Cancer free.”
Bradshaw was then asked if he was thinking about retiring from broadcasting.
“What about the studio?” he asked. “Who’s going to take my place? It’s never going to happen.”
