Welp, it didn’t take long. After the announcement of Toyota and Subaru’s second-generation GR 86 and BRZ models, all of this was a guarantee that small sports cars would have a number of subsequent fast products and aesthetic upgrades. And HKS Japan is not spending any time to leave its mark on the model. Last weekend, during the annual “BRZ with Fuji 86 Style” event at Fuji Speedway in Japan, the next tuning company with high efficiency demonstrated its GR 86 concept.
HKS (named after its founders Hasegawa, Kitagawa and Sigma) was founded in 1973 in Japan. Pre-designed turbocharged applications (one of the first), screw solutions and later aero options, the brand has long served as a leader in space. In recent years, often the first to enter the market is the update of newly released cars.
It had to be multiplied
If you live on social media, then you have no doubt read the constant complaints that any upgrade of GR 86 and BRZ has been canceled and HKS will correct this using the GT2 supercharger system. The company has paid great attention to the advantages of centrifugal superchargers for such screw kits, emphasizing the improved low power of forced induction systems and the mid-range sound compared to comparable turbochargers.
In addition to the supercharger, the HKS GR 86 is compatible with the GT SPEC exhaust manifold, which is equipped with a catalytic converter for the boxer engine, leading to the group’s Hi-Power SPEC-L II exhaust system. The lightweight cat has a pair of box mufflers that come out of the exhaust factory’s bumper holes on the back, wrapped in a titanium ring. HKS uses its Flash Editor to connect to the factory OBD port and restart the ECU to maximize performance or return to stock settings if needed, ensuring the supercharger and high-flow exhaust system work well with Toyota. sports coupe factory ECU. Although the official power numbers have not been released, as the kit is still under development, we take into account that these updates will have 60 and 100 horsepower – depending on which package is selected (access level and more advanced options) expect) – that the car is equal to 228 horsepower.
Dressed for Kill
The HKS concept emphasizes the original directions of the 2022 GT 86. There is no burning wing here. The front lip spoiler sticks to the bottom of the front bumper and wraps around its edges. The raised wings extend the piece a few inches to the outside. On top of it sat a piece of two-plane cans. The carbon fiber panel covers the front wing holes. These parts are fastened directly to the side panel of the HKS brand, which is oriented towards the rear quarter panel just like in the factory. However, these are a bit more accurate and much sharper due to their integral diffusers.
The best lines of the GR 86, however, disappear when you see the car from the back. The HKS adds a carbon fiber rear diffuser to make things a little more lively, which, like the front lip, protrudes a few inches from the bumper. Above is another carbon fiber touch: the smooth wing of the Duck Tail Wing that wraps around the trunk lid. HKS also beat a GT wing located on the trunk. The relatively low profile unit complements the other styles of the concept car well.
The HKS GR 86 improves handling with the use of Hypermax S films with adjustable camber plates. The company also produced original 18-inch wheels and tires for the 19-inch Advan Racing GT Beyonds bronze kit wrapped in adhesive 255 / 30-19 Advan Neova AD08R rubber. HKS didn’t forget about the power suspension either, and the company is compatible with this GR 86 with a blue-painted six-piston front caliber that secures the 14.6-inch rotors. Four-piston calipers and 12.6-inch Carbing slotted rotors are located at the rear of the vehicle.
Always ahead of the party, HKS Japan has managed to put together a very complete set for the upcoming GR 86 (it can be assumed that these bits will also go to the BRZ). For several years, the sports car, dubbed the Toyobaru, has maintained a loyal fan base and a large amount of secondary support. This should not change with the arrival of the second generation model as proof of HKS’s 2022 Toyota GR 86 concept.
