Checking the weather app is more unpredictable than the weather, but some new features help – if you find them.
Apple’s Weather app added some helpful new features when iOS 15 was released last year, but there’s one little white dot that you missed.
If you open the Weather app on your iPhone or iPad and look down the 10-day forecast, you’ll see a white dot in the color bars next to the current day’s forecast temperature.
The dot is designed to tell you where the current temperature falls in the daytime temperature range.
For example, if the high is assumed to be 63 degrees and the white dot is at the end, it means you are on the warmer side of the current day.
The same dot is used during the UV scale and at sunset
The white dot in the UV index represents the index at the present moment. You can use it to plan outdoor activities and to know how much sunscreen you want to use.
At sunset, the dot indicates the position of the sun relative to the horizon. It also gives you an approximate time of sunset.
The iOS 15 update made some more changes to the weather app.
Apple acquired Dark Sky app Some of the features have been merged, including hyperlocal and minute-to-minute forecasts in 2020 and beyond. Dark Sky’s iOS app and website will be closed later this year.
The app has got visual change, which is easy to navigate. It has also added a global map with current temperatures.
The new update also includes a weather map that lets you know exactly where it will rain.
You can scroll during the day so you can see when it’s raining in your area.
Hidden iPhone Weather Map
First, make sure that you have updated to the latest version of iOS.
Launch the Weather app – it’s installed on your iPhone by default.
Then tap on the map icon in the lower left corner of the app.
Now, tap the three squares stacked on the top right.
Pick up the rain and you’ll be able to see the rain’s rolling forecast as it moves around you.
Getting closer to dark blue means less rain, but white to purple to yellow indicates heavy rain.
You can use the bar at the bottom of the screen to move through time. If it disappears, tap the screen to bring it back.
You can use the bar at the bottom of the screen to scroll during the day.
It shows the rain that moves across cities, countries and around the world.
So you can see exactly where the rain comes from – and when it will get worse.
Of course, all of this is forecast so the map may not be accurate – but in the case of weather, it is always there.
