The Knicks lost because of Kevin Durant, not the jury

Tom Thibodeau was practically shivering in his press conference chair, trying like hell to contain his feelings. More than once he said he wanted to watch the movie Nets 112, the Knicks 110, but really, most of all, Thibodeau wanted to grab someone by the shoulders and shake some sense into him.

Preferably someone wears a whistle on the neck.

But in the end, the referees didn’t lose this wild and crazy game for the Knicks. Kevin Durant lost it to him. Durant is one of the greatest players of all time, and he’s going to get more calls than Julius Randall, who isn’t one of the greatest players of all time.

That’s the way of sport. That’s the way the NBA works. Thibodeau knows this better than most people who have been sentenced to life in prison.

And yet, as he stepped into the Barclays Center interview room, a night after rattling the entire league by boycotting Kemba Walker, Thibodeau was furious at Reffs over Randall. Mitchell Robinson fouled James Johnson with 2.2 seconds remaining and the score was tied, and given Robinson’s swipe, it was a call to be made.

Thibodeau was asked about the play. “I don’t know,” he said.

He was asked about his fifth starting revision, and he proposed that RJ Barrett’s illness and early departure changed the dynamic, but quickly turned to the fact that the Brooklyn Knicks took 25 foul shots to 12. “He made a big difference in free throws. I can tell you that,” Thibodeau shrugged. “Julius runs the ball, and he gets two free throws?

“And I don’t really care how the game is called. I really don’t. You can call it tight. You can call it loose. But it has to be the same.”

Thibs was now rolling. His eyeballs were swollen and his blood vessels were bouncing, and thank heavens the Minutes police did not send him completely over the edge.

“I want to watch a movie, but something’s not right,” he said.

Something is definitely not right. The Nets had Durant, who scored 11 of his 27 in the fourth quarter and made all nine of his free-throw attempts, including four of the fourth, and the Knicks had six of his 24 in the final 12 minutes and none from the foul line.

“But I know Julius runs the ball so hard,” Thibodeau said, “and I’m angry!”

“And I’m angry!” Part to measure the importance of being, Marv Albert “And it counts!”

Greg Schwartz, the Knicks PR man, called the trial a premature end and the ol ‘thibs walked away. Knicks PR people are easily targeted, given instructions from the person signing their payments. But on top of this, anyway, Schwartz was trying to protect his man from a hefty fine. We’ll see what the league says about it.

It was a brutal loss for sure. The Knicks were down by 16 points to take the lead, lose it again, and then Evan Fournier tied it at 17 seconds to get off the bench and nail a dramatic 3. Fournier needed it, and all his teammates sensed it. When he returned to the bench in time, he jokingly bounced off the French. Suddenly, it felt like a night that could change the course of the Knicks’ disappointing year.

But the next call was made by the refs, who fired Robinson, and drowned Johnson’s foul shots, and Fournier missed his runner from inside the half-court. Just as Randall scored a disastrous technical foul with 1:36 left, he entered with a referee.

“You’ve seen what happened,” Randall said. “Everyone saw what happened. … I’m not going to talk [the officials] Because they don’t understand the game clearly.

Although he reminded reporters that despite hitting the basket all night, he only hit two free throws, Randall admitted, “It’s on the road. It’s going to happen. ”

Yes, this happens all the time in the NBA, especially when 11-9 teams travel to the top of the conference to play a 14-6 team (though not too far away). Randall grew up worshiping Durant and said he had “never seen anyone like him.” Hey, the people you usually adore get the benefit of the whistle.

Randall said officers told him he was too strong to get some calls. “He said some contact doesn’t affect me as much as it affects other players. I’m strong …,” the Knicks forward said. “Oh man, I’m tired of being honest with you. It’s not how you affix the game.

In an ideal world, he was right. But in the NBA, Kevin Durant always gets calls that other players don’t. And if the Knicks wanted to benefit from that fact, they would have to sign him by chance.
