‘The last thing the young do before they’re intubated is beg me for the vaccine. But it’s too late’: Alabama doctor warns of ‘impending doom’ as Delta variant spreads while 65 percent of state residents REFUSE the shot

An Alabama doctor claims that young, unvaccinated people who died of COVID-19 say they wish they had got the coronavirus jab.

Dr Brittany Cobia, who works at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, made this claim in a devastating Facebook post published on Sunday and shared more than 700 times.

‘I am hospitalizing young healthy people with very severe COVID infections. One of the last things they do before being intubated is begging me for a vaccine. I hold his hand and tell him I am sorry but it is too late,’ Kobia wrote.

‘A few days later when I call the hour of death, I hug their family members and I tell them that the best way to honor your loved one is to get vaccinated and for everyone to do the same Encourage.’

Kobia pointed out that many families of victims say they did not get vaccinated because they believed COVID-19 was a ‘hoax’ or ‘political’.

‘They cry…. they wish they could go back. But they can’t,’ Kobia continued.

‘So they thank me and they go to get vaccinated. And I go back to my office, write his death note, and make a small prayer that this loss will save more lives’.

Only 33.7 percent of Alabama residents have been fully vaccinated – the lowest percentage of any state in the US.

Cases have risen across the state in recent weeks as the delta version of the coronavirus spreads rapidly.

The Alabama Department of Public Health has reported 7,915 new COVID infections in the past 14 days, with 469 patients requiring hospitalization.

According to the WSFA, 96 per cent of the people who died of COVID since April 1 were not fully vaccinated.

Many agreed with Kobia’s post, including a heartbroken mother whose unrelated son succumbed to the coronavirus.

‘Dr. Kobia, thank you for everything you do! My son said just before being intubated, ‘It’s not a hoax’. He died 50 days later, at the age of 28. My heart has been completely broken since then!’ Mother wrote.

“My daughter and I also had covid and have been on oxygen since the day I was admitted on March 12. I have finally been allowed to get vaccinated! So, our app can’t get here fast enough! I cry even when I have to take beds for covid patients when they are admitted. Especially when going from the floor to the ICU. I take away every parent’s nightmare! So yes, please continue your mission that God has laid before you and I will do the same! One more life has been saved One less life has been lost!’

Meanwhile, Cobia told local media that many people in Alabama are ignoring his pleas for vaccination.

She said she worried that the upcoming school year would bring disaster across the state.

‘All these kids are about to go back to school. There is no mask mandate at all, 70% of Alabama is unaffiliated. Kobia told AL.com.

‘So it basically sounds like impending doom.’
