The man was left in a body bag for 5 hours after doctors mistakenly pronounced him dead

They were dead wrong.

A Brazilian man has been found awake and breathing in a body bag straight from the scene of a zombie movie – five hours after he was wrongly pronounced dead by paramedics.

The victim’s sister, Aparecida, told Jam Press about the announcement of the untimely death at the Estadual do Centro Norte Hospital in Goiáno late last month: “The funeral director called me and told me to go there, my brother is alive he asked. .

Before death, the man, 62-year-old Jose Ribeiro da Silva, was pronounced dead on November 29, and authorities gave the official cause as complications from oral cancer.

The hospital even handed over the death certificate to his family.

Aparesida said he received the news at around 8:00 p.m., after which his brother’s body was released to the bereaved family so they can begin funeral preparations.

Little did they know, their beloved relative was still alive.

From there, da Silva spent an agonizing five hours in a body bag as he was taken from a medical facility to a funeral home 62 miles from the municipality of Rialma.

At 1 a.m. the next morning, the morgue staff realized something had gone horribly wrong. A surprised employee opened the bag and found the victim’s eyes open and breathing, albeit with some difficulty, like a reverse scenario from “Bernie’s Weekend.”

They later alerted the emergency services, who took da Silva to the hospital where he is now, and the family of the “dead” man was also informed of the fiasco.

They were horrified by the “terrible” mistake. Aparecida, who filed a complaint with the police on November 30, said, “It is unbelievable for such an incident, my brother sat in a polythene bag for five hours in the cold.

The crash reportedly happened after one of the doctors treating da Silva for oral cancer thought he had died of respiratory failure. However, he was breathing the entire time through a tracheotomy inserted into an incision in the front of his neck.

After the hospital’s technical director left for Rialma to help Jose’s family, the doctor in charge was let go. Authorities have since launched an accident investigation into the death.

In a similar disaster in 2020, a Paraguayan mother miraculously returned to life in a body bag after being pronounced dead by doctors earlier that day.
