“The nail was in the coffin” – Dan Hooker dismisses the legitimacy of Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 4

UFC lightweight Dan Hooker recently weighed in on the prospect of a fourth chapter in the Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier rivalry.

written below McGregor vs Poirier 3 inconclusive ending at UFC 264, Dana White claimed there needs to be a Fourth fight after Irishman’s recovery. White’s announcement was met with mostly approval as the fourth bout would set the record straight for who is the better fighter.

However, many in the MMA world, including No. 8-ranked lightweight Dan Hooker, believed that Dustin Poirier’s performance at UFC 264 was enough to end the rivalry.

Recently in an interview it’s game time, Hooker said that “The Diamond” clearly sidelined Conor McGregor in the first frame.

Dan Hooker said, “That was round 10-8. I think the general consensus was that Connor really had the first round to pull the trigger and do something and he scored 10-8 in the first round.” “

Conor McGregor is commonly seen here fastest in the early stages of his encounters. Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier has been known to slowly pick up the pace as the fight progresses into a later round.

However, at UFC 264, Poirier was the one who ran in the first five minutes until the Irishman broke his tibia and fibula.

According to Dan Hooker, since Dustin Poirier clearly got the better of Conor McGregor, a fourth match between the two fighters is not necessary.

“Dustin’s worst round in all his fights is his first round. And then he turns it on and comes forward. So, yeah, that fight was the nail in the coffin. It gives him an excuse but to prove it.” For fans to have another fight would be pretty much impossible,” Hooker said.

Dan Hooker believes Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor have come a long way since their first meeting

Conor McGrego And Dustin Poirier first met inside the Octagon in a featherweight clash at UFC 178 in 2014. Poirier was infuriated by McGregor’s actions in the build-up. The Louisiana native could not get his bearings inside the cage and was stopped by the Irishman in the first round.

Six years later, the two fighters met in a bright light once again at UFC 257. Only this time, Conor McGregor himself was courting the leadership. His inexperience, combined with his lack of mental edge, played in Poirier’s favor and the former interim champion overtook McGregor in the second round.

Dustin Poirier’s former rival Dan Hooker’s belief that “The Diamond” has evolved over the years is no longer his former self.

“Till here [the rematch] It was fun for me to watch…the first fight was in 2014; That’s a long time in combat games. It’s mostly a boy’s career,” he said.
